Piano Answers

I feel guilty for saying this behind her back because her & i do have a close relationship with her. But she is the type of person where she can be sweet as a piece of cheese cake but when her mom tells her no about things she gets really mad. She has been given a lot of things like a free car granted she did pay for the repairs. her first job was working for my uncle’s family( a secretary) a few days a week & cleaning her grandma’s house & barn. My Auntie does so much for her & she can be controlling but she lets my cousin do a lot of things. my aunt payed for her Piano lessons her horse back riding lesson & gymnastics lessons. i’m sure my cousin thanked her for it but i don’t think it could be a genuine as it could be. My cousin treats her horribly sometimes & she talks back to her & calls her rude things. I know my aunt may not be easy to deal with(my mom is her twin) but she is the parent & obviously she says no for a specificc reason.
My aunt is really generous person(she payed for a college class for me) & she is like that with her kids. They always go on vacations. My uncle is the president of a construction company. They have two boats tons of ski gear for water knee boards things like that.
last week they went away on vacation & she wanted to bring her boyfriend with her. When she asked her mom last minute my aunt said no & she freaked out. My aunt was like i have to say no because you knew if he wanted to come you should have told me two months ago. My cousin went upstairs & went on the computer even though my aunt said that she needed to pay some bills so it would be a few more minutes. She said no again & to get off & my cousin was like “You can’t talk to me like that”!
My cousin was told to go to her room & she did but as she was packing she threatned to leave the house while everyone is sleeping. She gets to do so much & she never really had to work hard at finding a job or anything & she can act like a brat. But why is she doing this i mean she’s 17 so she should be more mature by now. Im not jealous or anything im just mad that she thinks she can treat her family this way. my uncle won’t tell her no & he’ll just be like oh we’ll go & talk about it later. he won’t defend my aunt when my cousin calls her bad names either.

A teacher of mine recently purchased a newer digital piano, & is willing to sell me his old Clavinova CLP-311, & I was wondering how much one would expect a used one for, if anyone could provide me some info. He’s asking around $800, & in fairness, it was recently fully repaired & made essentially brand new. But still, i know that it’s an old model so I’d like some feedback. Anything to help would be great!

Right, I’ve been told I can have a free piano, they’re both second hand. I just gotta pick it up & make any repairs myself.
The first is up two flights of stairs, is somewhat beaten up, but still pretty intact but has no wheels on the bottom. I think two of the keys don’t work & it needs tuning.
The second looks much nicer, & would be far easier to move (on the ground floor & has wheels) but about 15 of the keys don’t work. Checked inside, some of the hammers have come off
Which one do you think I should go for? Bear in mind cost of repairing them would be pretty important.

I have already decided college that was easy. But i don’t know what i want to do (im finishing up my junior year soon.) Here is some info about me that might help.
I am a decent mechanic & i was thinking about doing that but I’m not sure i want to actually do that for a living.
I’m also slightly autistic with ADD & ADHD (i still don’t believe those last to) but that leads to me having very poor social skills (i can get along with some people but not if they are obnoxious & instigate me to talk).
I get good grades (high 80’s into the high 90’s)
I can play guitar (3 years), piano (2 years), violin (1 1/2 years) & write decent (or at least i have been told) short stories
I can’t stand being cooped up at a desk for an entire day
I’m pretty good with my hands & can repair stuff if i know what im doing
I do like being outside
I don’t want to have to travel
I was thinking of being a cop but i don’t want everyone to thing i am following my brother.

I am a middle-aged women & I worked most of my life in the family jewelry business. The business was sold due to outsourcing, & now I’m faced with having to start over from scratch. I have a B.A. in Music with an emphasis in piano. I also took post-graduate courses in computer programming & a 7 month course in Computer Repair & Networking(about 10 years ago).
I don’t want to attend school for 4 more years, but don’t know whether I should get an associates degree from the local community college or a master’s degree. Musicians don’t make money – I’m interested in accounting, engineering, technology, math. Please give me your opinion.

I’m going to be applying to mechanical engineering withing a few months, to cal poly slo, & some of the mid-less UC’s, like SD & Irvine., but i would really prefer going to cal poly slo..

mmm my parents combined income is around 200k
not real worried about activites, because i have some more that i havent listed, but real worried about my GPA at this point. Cal poly slo mechanical engineering is really tough to get into, & im worried i wont even make the first cut with my current gpa. Chances, plz, to give me some insight & maybe even some hope for me. I am going to college freshman year & if any college thief finds out what I’m bringing to college, they are going to have a field day raiding my stuff. First & most importantly, I’m bringing a 3000 dollar double manual keyboard, I’m not too worried about this because it weights over 100 LBs & is bulky, plus if it would be obvious if they saw someone walk outside with a bulky keyboard, but I’m still a little worried since its expensive.
Secondly I have over a dozen piano books that amount to a few 100 dollars. Unless the thief is a piano player, I don’t think many people would be interested since used piano books sell for literally pennies, but it would be a pain to have to replace each one. Thirdly, I have a 500 dollar digital camera with a big lens, that is semiprofessional, maybe a safe? I would hate to have to replace this, its perfect & I tend to leave it around randomly. And fourth, I have a 300 dollar Playstation 3 videogame system. Its the slim version so it would be easy to steal, but maybe if my roommate brings a TV, he can hook it up & find a way to hide it somewhere when its not playing. And fifth I am bringing a 700 dollar laptop that coasted 200 dollars to repair when it was bought for 400. It would be a very easy target since it has a design on the back & stuff. So how can I prevent all this stuff from being stolen, I’m not rich or spoiled & can’t afford to replace this stuff that took me over a year to save up for & buy. I was thinking a cheap safe for the laptop/camera? Maybe use a chain to lock the keyboard to the bed? The books I can hide maybe, these I’m least worried about. PS3 can be hidden in a box or under a clothes drawer???? Help I really want to know, I’m going to a pretty big college with over 30,000 students, & it is a pretty selective big ten, party school.

Anyways, im 13 only, 14 next year. I know 14 is like legal age to get SOME sort of job, like i plan to teach piano lessons when i get 14 years old, BUT right now, i want to start my own business …. computer repair business. Im only 13, but people often are shocked when I tell them in 13. they usually think around 15 or 16 . So i want to start my own HOME busines for computer repair … the problem isnt that I dont know everything i need to know, cuz i know most of it & enough to fix one, the problem is my age… should i just roll with it? & if they ask i wuld say im 15, & if they ask of any degrees or anything il just say im just doing this in my spare time to earn some cash ? plz suggestions, ideas, tips ?

my keyboard piano only turns on for like 5 seconds & shuts off.
and also before i had this problem, when i turned on it took like 20 secs for the sound to come on for the keys i press. what could it be? is my battery dead or is there something wrong inside?

well.. i have a 3.75 weighted GPA. if there was no limit to the weighted gpa, my gpa would be in the 4.3 range. i took 3 AP’s & 2 Honors classes in jr year. got a 5 on ap chem, 3 on ap lang, & 2 on apush unfortunately.. (i hate history)
my sat is 1850. but i decided to take the ACT instead, because i find it alot easier, & im hoping to hit around 32-34.

My piano is an Ivers & pond from the late 1880s.
I’ve been tinkering it & i’ve gotten somewhat good at making my own repairs to it.

The hammer butt flange.
The one’s in my piano are made of brass.
Some of them are loose, & some of them are just broken.
So these are my few questions.
It seems that these people would only make these out of brass because they didnt have stainless steel back then, am I right about that? or do they need to be made of brass?
Are mine only cracking because the brass pieces are old?
And also when I replace them, I either worry i’m not going to tighten them enough & then a week later they’ll be loose & i’ll have to go & take the action out. Or i’m worried that i’ll tighten them too much & they’ll crack.
That’s a lot of information but if you answer my question i’ll be very very thankful

Hi, i just started joining the world of piano tech, my father was one & i am following his footsteps, he teaches me the basic of tuning repairing & such, but my tuning isnt that good, one of the problem is that when i turn according to the scoop i can make the pitch of the string neutral but after i hit the piano key for a few time the pitch will lower & lower, i use the hammer to pull the pitch higher again & then repeatedly hitting the piano key & the pitch still will lower… Then i go check the part that my dad tuned & i hit the key more then 20 times but the pitch wont drop my dad says that i need to turn the pin so that it wont move but how am i suppose to make the pin stay still?????

If someone says that a piano has trouble keeping a tune, does that mean that there is something wrong with the soundboard? If so, can it be repaired? Thank you!

I am looking for a used piano on Craigslist. I am not looking to spend a lot of money, but just want a descent piano that will last. Should I get a Spinet, Console, Upright, I don’t know there are so many. A guy is selling a Winter 1960 Spinet for $250, but I keep reading that they have problems & the difficult to tune. What should I be looking for in terms of brand, type, make. I know once the piano is moved to my home, if I buy it, it will need to be tuned. The Spinets seem tempermental, is it a bad buy. What would you suggest for a beginner piano that won’t cost me a lot of repairing down the line. The guy I am buying if from says he is a piano technician & says it sounds great. I don’t know whether to trust or not, or if I should just stay away from a spinet. Help!

long story short– their last fight ended with my dad hitting my dog & throwing a piano bench at my mom. my dad was going to move out but changed his mind. my mom knows theres no fixing their relationship & shes afraid of him [she talks to me about this stuff all the time]. i want nothing to do with my father– hes an alcoholic, a pothead, abusive, & neglectful. how do i convince my mom to get rid of him? he is tearing our family apart & my moms, my sisters, & my lives would benefit from getting rid of him.

I just got a used Keyboard piano. However, some of the middle keys are less than responsive. I have to really press them down instead of tapping them. Im just starting also. This is a Yamaha PSR-400 (yes pretty old). Is there something that can be done for the middle keys? Anyone with a similar experience?

I already play the piano to a pretty high level, but was really interested in learning more about the field of piano tuning etc as hopefully a holiday job…
I would assume that it is impossible to learn from another piano tuner since they would hardly want to create more competition, so an online course seemed like the most likely alternative – or maybe there is a book or better way to go about this?

I am extremely worried about my chances of getting accepted into UGA. My mom has been stressing me even further, telling me that I probably won’t get accepted into any college. I’m sure she’s exaggerating & I can get into a college, but if it’s not up to her standards, she’ll still be disappointed in me. I would hate for my dad to figure out that I can’t make it into UGA. He isn’t really that close to me & doesn’t exactly know how I’m doing in school, so if he were to find out, he would be even more disappointed in me than my mom. They’ve always wanted me to go to an Ivy League school (Lol), but I know that it would take a miracle for me to get into one, so my only choices left without disappointing them are either UGA or Georgia Tech. Any other school to them is really considered not up to par (At least in the state of Georgia). So, back story aside, I’ll now go into my information.
Weighted GPA: 3.20.
I’m in my Junior Year right now and, as you can see, I have slacked off during my Freshmen & Sophmore years. Well, now it’s really biting me in the butt since I’m actually having difficulty in a few classes (Mainly PreCal). I can pull off at least a B in all my classes this year, but I’m unsure of PreCal. I really have to make up for it next year, so I’m trying to see how many AP classes I can take & do well in. I have only taken one AP so far (AP World History) & two Honors courses (Chemistry & Physics). I’m ahead of the game in math, if that counts for anything. I am struggling though. My school does not inform me of class rankings or my unweighted GPA.
I take the SAT in March, I’m not sure if I have to take the ACT or not, but if I do, I will. I have taken the PSAT all three years so far. If it matters, my scores this year: Verbal – 60, Math – 64, Writing – 56. The only other time I’ve taken the SAT was in seventh grade for the Duke TIP where I got around a 1200, if I remember correctly. I’m not sure if these actually count for anything, I hope it doesn’t seem I’m just throwing numbers out there, lol.
My Plan of Study for next year:
- British Lit/Composition
- AP AB Calculus (Might end up taking AP Statistics, depends on how this year ends with PreCal)
- AP Physics
- AP Psychology
- AP Government & Politics (I’m considering just taking regular Gov, considering all of the APs I’m already taking, but I hear from my friend that AP Gov is pretty easy…)
- Bible (I’m not going to get specific with this, I hear it’s not important as long as I don’t fail.)
I am unsure of what I want my last class to be. My friends have been begging me to take AP Euro, as they are looking for more people & I hear it’s a fun class, but that would be way too many APs, in my opinion. I was going to take Photography 2/3, but they messed up my schedule this semester & put me in Personal Finance instead of Photography 1. So, I’m still deciding.
Extracurriculars (That I can think of):
- Third board on the chess team (We compete & place pretty high in tournaments, including state)
- People to People Student Ambassadors
- Congressional Student Leadership Conference thingy (I really have no idea what this is, but I got invited. Apparently, only one person per school gets invited each year or something, but it has to do with leadership & government stuff, which I’m not interested in. I’m not sure how prestigious it is. I guess you could count this off…)
- Service/Community Hours Galore (Lol, not really sure how else to state this.)
- Experience in playing guitar, drums, & piano
- Working at an auto repair shop
That’s all I can think of at the moment… I don’t do a lot of activities in school & they are mainly out of school, so I will probably end up doing more next year. I’m not even sure if the ones I listed count for anything, I just named them off the top of my head.

So, yeah. Do I have a chance right now to get into UGA? I’m pretty sure that, right now, the deciding factor will be what I get on the SAT. I’m not really that sure, though. If I were to do really well on the SAT, would my low GPA or lack of extracurriculars cripple me enough to not let me in? If I can’t get into UGA, is there any other good college in Georgia that would accept me? I’m really aiming for a college in Georgia so I can recieve the Hope scholarship. I’m pretty sure I can get the Hope scholarship, so I don’t think we have any problems there.
Gah, this college thing is so stressful. I’m going to start meeting with the college counselor soon to help me through this further. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read through this whole mess & attempts to help me.

Throughout the whole movie the main characters names are never said, even in the credits they are something like him & her or guy & girl. They are both musicians, & very good ones at that. The whole movie they write & perform songs together, & obviously fall in love. But they don’t go any further with their relationship because she’s already married & has a daughter. More details about the movie: they meet when the girl needs to get her vacuum repaired (he runs a vacuum repair shop); he buys her a piano at the end of the movie so she can play at her house; they end up apart in the end.
