Piano Answers

We have a studio piano that’s been sitting in the house unused for a few years now, & would like to donate it, Most of the charities don’t seem to take bulky items though, so does anyone have any idea where can this piano go to put it to good use?
p.s Piano condition is good – needs tuning though.

i’ve just started playing again after about 7 years. I believe we bought my Yamaha upright piano about.. 10years ago. I’ve noticed that starting from the keys around the middle C to the left side of the piano, the sound doesnt linger when you take your hands off the keys. probably needs to be tuned?
how often are you supposed to tune your piano? & how much is the price range in the denver area?

I’ve been playing piano for a very long time now, but I never really bothered to have mine tuned. Now it sounds ancient.

I’d especially like to find music that is ALL Piano. I have a yamaha Clavinova piano. Most midi files have cheezy electronic background sounds. Where can I find MIDI files that are good arangements & especially ones that are only piano???
I know there are thousands of sites with midi files, but which sites have music that doesn’t suck?
(FYI, I like a bit of everything, but especially 90’s & up rock, pop, some opera, broadway, new age, & good piano tunes).

I have the tabs but it says i have to tune it to open D tuning.
I have a piano so i can tune it like that..
but i was lowering the low E peg to D but its not working..?
am i doing it right?

When piano accompany violin, pianist gives an A for violin to tune. Does pianist need to do that for flute too? If so, which note? Bflat?

I think it’s from the 80’s. It gets all video game-y then a piano finishes off the song. It would be considered pop I’m sure. It’s driving me crazy. I can hear the tune of the piano but obviously you can’t google a sound in your head.

I know music; I play three musical instruments, but not guitar. I want to tune my mum’s old guitar to my piano, but I don’t know what the guitar strings are meant to be tuned to (like, what are the string’s open notes)?

i’ve bein looking around for prices & estimates on how much it will cost to have a piano tuned. & i was jsut wondering whats the avrage cost for it, because i dont want to overcharged or ripped off!
if anyone knws, that will be very helpful!

Fees for piano tuning and/or maintenance are not regulated by statute. You can sensibly compare piano tuning fees with those in other industry where a visit to the client’s premises is involved. The Piano Tuners’ Association has ‘recommended minimum fees’ that vary according to area. Piano tuners, like members of any other profession, will vary in their abilities, experience, & knowledge. Piano tuning is an art requiring training, experience & considerable talent. As with any other service of this nature, clients can reasonably expect to pay more for the benefit of a high level of skill & knowledge.
In my experience £30 is reasonable to suggest. You may find the below link helpful.

Im trying to find a piano so i could play some songs & put em facebook. But i cant seem to find a piano anywhere!

I’m currently piano hunting & want to buy a second hand upright piano. Despite the obvious questions- when was the last time it was tuned & is there any hidden damage; are there any relevant & potentially vital questions which i could ask?
Also, do you think that it would be ok to base the piano in a conservatory? The temperature varies a little in there from the main house (around 2-3 degrees hotter or colder in summer/winter) Could this have a profound impact on the working/ tuning aspects of the piano?

And how much would it cost?

it was either the generation game or something else. Where someone fairly famous played the piano chords – short tune – with pieces of wood with dowel on them. Assembled so that when he used different ones, they were in the correct position to play the chords.

Im just starting playing piano & Im having some trouble getting my hands to play the different parts. What are some good exercises to get my hands used to playing? Any tips are helpful. Thanks!

It depends on if you know what you are doing or if you are just experimenting with tuning. The dangerous part is not if the string snaps because if you are tuning an upright it generally snaps at the point below where you are. What is dangerous is for the piano. There are particular techniques & sequences used for tuning a piano to temperment & if you don’t implement them it could be dangerous for your piano. Each tuning pin must be set & locked in so it won’t slip & If your piano is really out of tune it will need to be adjusted in stages. I would suggest finding a professional tuner to do it.
