Is it possible to tune a guitar without the use of some type of reference note (Without having absolute pitch). I want to be able to tune my guitar without having to have any string in tune, without using a piano, tuner, tuning fork, or pitch pipe, or anything like that. Is this possible, & if so how do I do it? Thanks.

What are the characteristics of a scary song? I’ve composed a couple of happy & on going songs, but now I want a scary song. I cant find any good scary songs that I could listen to & get an idea. Could someone give me a name of a good scary song on piano?

i recently had my piano tuned, yet my keys are still fairly rough.. if i lightly touch a key, for example, there is a delay. & given a bit more force, i get sound that is loud. i cant evoke a soft sound out of the piano.. would it be some sort of lubrication issue? the technician who tuned the piano mentioned something about an oil..

I have a yamaha clavinova CVP 309 series digital piano. I heard that there was a 16-track recoring system which lets you create your own band, by yourself, so you can have different musical instruments playing at the same time. I don’t know how to use it. I found an upright piano for sale & it looks great. The only problem being that I never had a piano. I have been playing on a keyboard for 4 years now & I want to buy a piano.
What do I look for when I test the piano?

I am trying to find a concert grand type sound but i don’t know if fruity keys can do that

I am thinking about starting a piano tuning business. I have played the piano for over 11 years now & know all of it’s functions. I was hoping a few of you could elaborate on what the “qualifications” are. Is there a class of certification or recognition I must take & exactly how would I truly learn how to do all the requirements needed for tuning and/or repairing a piano.

my composition…
My composition is called, “Come Back”, it is an acoustic instrumental in the key of A minor & has a time signature of 4/4 but also moves into rubato or “free time”.
I recorded myself playing the piece on the acoustic guitar with no other instruments.
“Anji”, a song by David Graham has heavily influenced this piece.
David Graham was a British guitarist & one of the most influential figures in the 1960’s British folk revival. He inspired many famous practitioners of the finger style acoustic guitar, such as, Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Martin Carthy, John Martyn, Paul Simon & Jimmy Page.
Graham is probably best-known for his acoustic instrumental, “Anji” which he wrote at the age of nineteen, & for his pioneering use of DADGAD tuning, which was later widely adopted by acoustic guitarists.
In the first section of my piece, the guitar strums through A minor chord, G note, F note and
E chord. This is repeated three times & the final time end with a broken chord sustained on E.
The second section of my composition is a fingerpick of the first part which is played twice in the time of 4/4 which keeps it in the same pace as the first section.
The third section of my composition is another fingerpick part which is a small stylized motif on the A minor chord, (which has a dynamic marking of piano) which highlights a technique known as a hammer on & pull off. This section is ended with a roll on the E chord which has a crescendo build up to forte.
The fourth section is a variation of the second section which is played twice, again in the time of 4/4.
The fifth section is a run on E Phrygian which reminds me of a Spanish flamenco dance piece in which rubato is used & shows great expression of intensity & suspense.
The rubato interpretation is used quite heavily throughout my piece, creating my own style of the flexible rhythm moving through the fusion of two different genres.
This follows with a short refrain on the E Phrygian, descending & continuing the same dynamic as the previous section.
The next two sections are exact repeats of sections two & three, this leads into another run on E Phrygian which is the same as section five.
The next section (eleven) introduces a new motif where there is use of double stops with an ascending semibreve movement. This kind of pattern would normally be played in a descending order but I chose to play the reverse as I thought it added to the Spanish (Phrygian) feel of the piece.
Keeping in line with my reversed motif, I decided to end my piece as it began, with the second section leading into the first & ending on a broken chord, sustained on A minor.

I’ve been playing piano for a while now (about 6 years on & off, recently self-teaching) on a player piano that is about 80-100 years old, given to my family as a gift. While it has a gorgeous sound, it is often out of tune. I have recently began playing contemporary pop, country, & alternative pieces in order to get back into playing, as well as to improve my voice. I’m worried that singing to an out-of-tune piano (being so old, it gets out of tune really fast when we have it tuned) will get my voice into some bad habits, so I’ve been wanting to save up for a keyboard. No maintenance costs, plus the privacy of practicing in my room. I’d like one that is under $250. Also, are there any models that have a microphone to record my singing? This is not necessary, though. Any brand/model recommendations?

I really want to buy a synthesizer (for about $500, as I am only a kid on a minimum wage budget). There are plenty of synthesizers out there for this price that get good reviews but I’m having trouble finding one that can also simulate the rich noise of a piano. So if you can make any suggestions that would be appreciated, I have been looking at the Yamaha MM6 & the Roland SH-201 Synthesizer, but the Roland is only capable of a piano noise if you spend hours tinkering with the fine tuning which I have only seen accomplished once on youtube (and I highly doubt Id be as skilled or fortunate enough as the person who was able to do it).

a piano tuner hears 3 beats per sec from the combined sound of the piano wire being played & a tuning fork. the wires are tightened & now the tuner hears 5 beats per sec.
