Piano Answers

I played the piano from 7 until 12, & my wpm is very good(I’m 14), & I’ve never taken typing lessons. Its just a thought that came to me as a I was going to bed last night.

I know the bass clef is played with the left hand & the treble played with the right. But when you are playing both at the same time, are the chords different? For example, playing A in the bass at the same time as playing C in the right. If this is true, why? I believe when playing pop music the bass note matches the notes on the guitar, piano, etc..
I hope this makes sense.

When youre playing a keyboard that is accompayning the piano with an orchestra- how much can you focus- & still play the piano but take your eyes off the music & look out into the crowd, or look around etc?

I have an audition coming up on Friday but I can’t get my pieces right yet.

and end up playing the song without having to read the notes. I do that & I don’t know if I should try & read the notes all the time or if its okay to memorize because sometimes i’ll be staring at the notes but i won’t be reading them i’ll just be playing from memory.

I am trying to learn how to play the piano, but the problem I am having is that my left hand wants to do what my right hand does. Its hard for me to play chord progressions with my left hand because it wants to play the melody my right hand is playing. How do I overcome this???

I’m currently piano hunting & want to buy a second hand upright piano. Despite the obvious questions- when was the last time it was tuned & is there any hidden damage; are there any relevant & potentially vital questions which i could ask?
Also, do you think that it would be ok to base the piano in a conservatory? The temperature varies a little in there from the main house (around 2-3 degrees hotter or colder in summer/winter) Could this have a profound impact on the working/ tuning aspects of the piano?

My right arm has been tensing up when I play my scales & exercises. I know that I am playing a slow speed & my position is relaxed. I haven’t played my scales in a while though. Is the reason why my arm hurts so much (the muscle part) is because I haven’t been practicing recently?

Playing in a non legato, non cantabile fashion.
In other words, not having smooth transition from note to note.

yaktur…you need absolute pitch (commonly known as ‘perfect pitch’) to be able to distinguish one note from another (knowing which sound is which note) when you’re only listening & not looking at the score. few people have this talent. you’re either born with it or you aren’t. you can’t learn absolute pitch, you can only strengthen your relative pitch to help you deduce which note it is from another reference note which is given to you.
to the questioner: i assume you’re a beginning pianist? because trained pianists will be able to tell which note the piece starts on just by looking at the score. unless you’re talking about trying to listen for which note the piece starts on without looking at the score. a good reference point when looking at your score is middle C, which most of the other answerers have already described.

i have played the piano for 18 yrs..and recently decided to start playing at weddings & other venues…i’m not sure what to charge people?

Okay, I rent a piano from a piano store. I’ve had it since about Feb. of this year… & I’m not sure if I should tune it sooner or later! Some of the keys sound kind of harsh or rattly, I looked inside the piano & the hammers look worn from the strings, and, well, being no piano tuner, should I have the piano checked out soon? Can a piano tuner do something about the worn-looking hammers? And should I call the store where I rented the piano out to see if they have a policy on who tunes the piano first? I would appreciate any advice thank you!

I play jazz piano, & when I try to improvise, especially playing lots of fast-running notes on the right hand, I tend to rush, both hands (as I’ve discovered by having the metronome running as I was playing). How do I overcome this? How do I build a “natural” rhythm or tempo?
I’ve heard that playing with a metronome can be helpful. If so, how do i practice with the metronome?

The other day at school, we all were partnered up & had 2 give 5 interesting facts about ourselves & share it with the class. I noticed that a vast amount of people played the piano, many at grades 6 & above. I play it & am currently working towards grade 6, but i was wondering how relevant it is when applying. I mean, with so many people having those skills, would it mean i may not stand out?

Can someone please tell me what this is. Basically what is it called when in a music piano piece, a finishing chord is played with the notes separately. So you’re sort of playing it in a flowing way rather than just one block chord!?!

Hi i had a piano concert where i would be judge on & i played my pice for my teacher earlier that week & the teacher said that i would nail it at the concert because i knew it so well & perfectly & then when i played for the judge at the concert i meesed up very badly & when i was done my hands were trembling. what can i do to not get so nervous when i perfom in fornt of someone?

For instance, do you always have to use the same fingers to play the same keys or could you use whatever fingers you want?
