Any suggestions on back-up majors that work well with piano & pay well? Ones that I’m interested in that are offered at the music colleges I’m considering are:

• Neuroscience/Cognitive Science

• Political science
Which of those majors are easy to find jobs in & pay well? Which ones do you think are the most popular/least popular majors today?

What is a good keyboard for beginners & a good instruction manual or book? How can I learn? I will not go to lessons though, I need to learn on my own time. What can I do?

I know how to write melody for any songs, but sometimes i have problem getting the chords & particularly I dont know when to use Minor chords, Diminished, Aug, C7, C9. I dont know the difference.

OK, so I want to record myself playing piano & have been looking at recording equipment on the internet & have to admit I’m slightly baffled by all the different recording things. I want something really simple to use that I can easily put on the computer & it has to be quite cheap, but of course the sound to be good. Any ideas about what I should use?

i would like to be a piano teacher for a school, or college. Is this a good career? or should i major in this, & another thing too?

A man that tunes pianos said the piano was worth between 500 & 700 dollars.I wanted to get 550 dollars.It is a maghoney upright the make is sterling & comes with bench. I do not know how old it is probably around 40 to 50 years old. It is in great condition. What exactly does it indicate when the keys are a little lower than the rest on the rail? Is it a costly repair? Do the hammers need to be replaced?

while playing a song on d piano how do we know when to strike the given chords of tht song. can any one explain with an example so tht i understand better?

I use play pretty good when I was in high school, I took classes every year. The other day (10 years later) I tried playing some songs but could not remember a thing.
I thought about taking lessons but decided not to because I still know the theory very well, it would be just practise.
What I would like to know is, does anyone recommend anything to start with? Should I royal conservatory type music? Any help would be great, with possible links to web sites.

It is a Wurlitzer spinnet piano with bench. It is not the most beautiful example, but plays well. The missing string is the lowest G# on the piano (not played much). Was going to have it replaced the next time the piano was tuned , but that never happened.

If I can’t afford to go to school for that, a teacher is enough? I can excel with just a personal experienced piano teacher?

I just took the MAT (Miller Analogies Test) & received a scaled score of 411. I would like to get my Master’s in Education at Harvard, but couldn’t find their minimum MAT scores. I think I’m in the high 70th or 80th percentile with that score in my fields (music/education).
I graduated from Boston University with a double major in Education & Classical piano performance. My college G.P.A was 3.49/4.00 & I was awarded several prestigious awards by BU for my work with arts in education (especially urban education). I’m an African-American woman from a low-income family. Some of my awards/activities include:

I just received a free piano. I am not a piano expert. It needs some repairs, like the broken leg, stuck key, tuning, etc. Is it worth it to pay for the repairs? I don’t even have an idea of how much $$ I am looking at to get it fixed. The brand is Cable.

I already play flute & piano but i really want to play electric violin (please say if i should start on acoustic), my parents can’t afford another set of lessons so i thought i would get a tuition book so i could TRY to teach myself. do you know any books that would be any good for this!?

I stopped playing piano about four years ago & I want to start up again.

First, you have to have the ear for it. Make sure you do.
Second, it is most often done as a small business. You’ll want
to study how to do all of the stupid things you have to do
for accounting, taxes, advertising, etc.
If you can afford to do it, I’d advise trying to contact people in your
area who are doing it now. You could work a summer as an
apprentice, or at the very least let them talk your ear off a bit.

I assume that you are asking what you will need to know, since unless someone wants to make a career of it, they would ask you, not look for people offering information.
You would need to know about the chords that each “note” creates since there is 3 strings for each note. Now the equipment that you will need is minimum a tuning fork & a trained ear. On up to digital tuners that could get pricey.
