a piano tuner hears 3 beats per sec from the combined sound of the piano wire being played & a tuning fork. the wires are tightened & now the tuner hears 5 beats per sec.

My guitar is E-A-D-G-B-E. My piano has two black keys & three black keys with white keys inbetweenst the black.

Yeah, I’m kind of new at guitar
and i wanted to try & play The Best Decpetions from Dashboard Confessional on it.
I have the tabs but it says i have to tune it to open D tuning.
I have a piano so i can tune it like that..
but i was lowering the low E peg to D but its not working..?
am i doing it right?

It depends on if you know what you are doing or if you are just experimenting with tuning. The dangerous part is not if the string snaps because if you are tuning an upright it generally snaps at the point below where you are. What is dangerous is for the piano. There are particular techniques & sequences used for tuning a piano to temperment & if you don’t implement them it could be dangerous for your piano. Each tuning pin must be set & locked in so it won’t slip & If your piano is really out of tune it will need to be adjusted in stages. I would suggest finding a professional tuner to do it.

Usually guitars have their tuning knobs arranged in two rows. Only the tuning knobs on one side would hit three piano keys. The spacing of the knobs would have to line up with the spacing of the keys to even do that.

Most recently when I tune the high treble, usually on older pianos, the B7 & C8 strings break. This especially sucks when i am working on a spinnet. Normally, it’s because the strings are old, but I have trouble hearing when I get the notes in tune & I pull the strings too tight.
What have you all done to help with this in your early careers?

what annoys me is that it is portrayed as a ‘labour only’ problem, & in fact the tories have got this rich buffoon claiming for all this nonsense despite being considerably more wealthy than people like Hazel Blairs
Not that any of them were right to be so greedy, but they’ve basically all taken the lead off each other.

if I am trying to tune a piano & sound a note & a tuning fork together & hear 4 Hz. Then, hear 8 Hz after I tighten a string. Does this mean that I should have loosened the string instead of tightening it? I’m assuming the ideal is that when you sound the note & the tuning fork together you don’t hear anything?

Okay, I rent a piano from a piano store. I’ve had it since about Feb. of this year… & I’m not sure if I should tune it sooner or later! Some of the keys sound kind of harsh or rattly, I looked inside the piano & the hammers look worn from the strings, and, well, being no piano tuner, should I have the piano checked out soon? Can a piano tuner do something about the worn-looking hammers? And should I call the store where I rented the piano out to see if they have a policy on who tunes the piano first? I would appreciate any advice thank you!

When we moved two years ago, the piano was knocked way out of tune & it has been that way ever since. Since I don’t have a professional tuner in my location, I am considering doing it myself.
First of all, is this something I should attempt to be doing, or is a pro tuner the only way? I do have experience with pianos having played them for seven years, however I don’t really look inside my piano that often (the dust is unbearable & everytime I try to do so I end up in a sneezing fit).
Also, how much time would this require? I am the only one in the family that plays this piano every day. However, my younger sister has taken up piano lessons (practicing every other day) & my mother likes to get a song going every once in a while. I need to work my time window around these two.
And finally, are there any websites that would explain in detail how to do this? Thanks!
