Piano Answers

I’m looking to pick up some basic piano skills. I’m more looking to play by ear rather than play sheet music. I play guitar & looking to begin learning basic piano (chords, scales, etc) to get me started so i can record basic stuff. Anywhere online that would be good? for free?

I mean like hand size, patience, age, etc.

Im thirteen years old & I can play piano. It’s a skill of mine that I admire & embrace & I would like my 7 year old brother to enjoy it also. I know how to play every chord & understand sheet music. I was wondering; how would you go about teaching a 7 year old to play piano?

I am looking for a used piano on Craigslist. I am not looking to spend a lot of money, but just want a descent piano that will last. Should I get a Spinet, Console, Upright, I don’t know there are so many. A guy is selling a Winter 1960 Spinet for $250, but I keep reading that they have problems & the difficult to tune. What should I be looking for in terms of brand, type, make. I know once the piano is moved to my home, if I buy it, it will need to be tuned. The Spinets seem tempermental, is it a bad buy. What would you suggest for a beginner piano that won’t cost me a lot of repairing down the line. The guy I am buying if from says he is a piano technician & says it sounds great. I don’t know whether to trust or not, or if I should just stay away from a spinet. Help!

My grade is going to host a a show night at our school theatre & one of the organizers wants me to play some kind of James Bond genre of piano music. The problem is, I’m not sure about what this type of music IS. I’m supposed to play for 30 minutes before the show starts (which is James Bond themed. Go figure.) so it’s meant to be entrance music to set the mood for the night. Any level of piano music is fine. Thanks!

I’m playing modern music(anime music to be specific) for about 4-5 months & I’m really determined to enhance my piano skills cuz I really love hearing songs from the piano although I also like other classical music like canon & fantasie impromptu. So what do you think I should play, I’d appreciate it if u add any reasons to your answer. Tnx a bunch^_^

I had tuition as a child. I had 2 teachers & they both died God bless them shortly after taking me on as a pupil. my grandfather was self taught

It seems to me than classical music is harder to play on guitar.
When I watch a pianist playing a classical peice, he is still in the same posture he would be if playing a contemporary rock song.
However, to play the same peice on guitar, the guitarist would HAVE to be competent at finger picking, which is a whole style of playing on its own.
For example, I was watching someone playing chopin’s nortourne (originally E-flat) in E major, on an acoustic guitar, & it looked like such an exercise, compared to a pianist.
I listen to classical peices, & I feel so frustrated, trying to play them because strumming it is not enough, & finger-picking is a very difficult skill.

I love both instruments very much & I want to be able to play both. Been playing piano for 8 years & guitar for 3. Is it True that guitar wrecks the ability to play piano?

well i’ve seen on youtube people play River Flows in You by Yiruma & i was just wondering if that have flute music sheets for it or they are just reading piano music for it.

I know music; I play three musical instruments, but not guitar. I want to tune my mum’s old guitar to my piano, but I don’t know what the guitar strings are meant to be tuned to (like, what are the string’s open notes)?

Is there a way to tune the piano to make it not make sound. I want to hit the keys & make it look like I’m playing the piano.

I really want to learn the piano, but we don’t have enough money for lessons (also why I only have a small keyboard we got for free) but that’s the best I can do. So, is there any good guide or something on how to play? I’m good at matching what I hear & can read notes, since I played violin for years, but the piano is so big & when I look at piano music I don’t understand it, & which note is where on the piano.
