Piano Answers

Is it possible to tune a guitar without the use of some type of reference note (Without having absolute pitch). I want to be able to tune my guitar without having to have any string in tune, without using a piano, tuner, tuning fork, or pitch pipe, or anything like that. Is this possible, & if so how do I do it? Thanks.

I’ve been playing the guitar for about a little over a year now. And It’s pretty hard. I even had a teacher for it.
So I decided to ditch it. But now the piano seems pretty cool. Is it easier than the guitar or harder?
And if you do know how to play the piano what’s the biggest problem you had playing it?

I’ve been playing jazz guitar for quite a long time & really want to get decent on the piano, since I think piano is the most beautiful sounding instrument in the world…
How hard is the transition? Is it like starting from square one? Do skills carry over at all? I can already read sheet music, improvise, recognize all intervals & chords by ear, know alot of music theory & my teacher always uses the piano keyboard to help visualize theory…
I’m 16 years old, which I know is a bit old to start playing a new instrument…

I am trying to learn both the guitar & the piano. I work with kids with autism & want to be able to play kids songs at least as studies have shown that this improves learning skills in my kids. I don’t have the money for a teacher so I’d like to get a book & try that out. I don’t read music & don’t play other instruments. Any good suggestions for a book?

I was playing the piano for 9 years. I love it & I don’t want to stop, I just also really want to play guitar. So that’s my question. Is it a good idea to combine these 2 things ? Is it gonna be harder or easier ? And next question: Should I start with acoustic when I want to play electric in the future or should I buy electric from the start ?

i want to learn music theory but i can only find it for piano. would it still transfer over to guitar? i know that the skills wont but i have been playing for about 2 years & need to learn theory.

Is it harder to pick up music on the guitar than it is on the piano?
I have an excellent ear….but not so excellent music reading skills…….Maybe a guitar would be better suited to me?
So what are the pros & cons? What are the major differences between learning songs on the guitar as opposed to the piano?

I play viloin . Is violin , piano , & guitar the same notes ? Or do I have to totally learn all things new ? I was wondering if I should play guitar or piano . age 16 . girl .

It seems to me than classical music is harder to play on guitar.
When I watch a pianist playing a classical peice, he is still in the same posture he would be if playing a contemporary rock song.
However, to play the same peice on guitar, the guitarist would HAVE to be competent at finger picking, which is a whole style of playing on its own.
For example, I was watching someone playing chopin’s nortourne (originally E-flat) in E major, on an acoustic guitar, & it looked like such an exercise, compared to a pianist.
I listen to classical peices, & I feel so frustrated, trying to play them because strumming it is not enough, & finger-picking is a very difficult skill.

I love both instruments very much & I want to be able to play both. Been playing piano for 8 years & guitar for 3. Is it True that guitar wrecks the ability to play piano?

My guitar is E-A-D-G-B-E. My piano has two black keys & three black keys with white keys inbetweenst the black.

I have the tabs but it says i have to tune it to open D tuning.
I have a piano so i can tune it like that..
but i was lowering the low E peg to D but its not working..?

I know music; I play three musical instruments, but not guitar. I want to tune my mum’s old guitar to my piano, but I don’t know what the guitar strings are meant to be tuned to (like, what are the string’s open notes)?

The makers of this guitar were quite elderly at the time (1936) & made Pianos usually. My parents discribed them as 2 old men who measured my mothers hand before making the neck so she could reach the chords. The guitar was made left handed. I would like to know how rare it is…I have been advised that it is quite rare & could be valuable. It is small, but has a great tone. It has traveled the world with me & was rescued from a house fire 10 years ago. There has been some damage to the finish & I would like to find a reliable guitar maker to do the repairs.

Usually guitars have their tuning knobs arranged in two rows. Only the tuning knobs on one side would hit three piano keys. The spacing of the knobs would have to line up with the spacing of the keys to even do that.

My Granny taught me what keys to use on the piano to tune my guitar, & I haven’t played my guitar in a while, & my Granny passed away. So, now I’ve picked it up again, & it’s way out of tune, I need to know what keys to use on the piano. I know the first one is E & I think the second one is G, but I’m lost after that. Thank you!

how complicated is making the transition from guitar playing to keyboard/piano?
I have been playing guitar for a few years now. I still have lots to learn but have taken an interest in the keyboard/piano. Not sure if I should get a weighted keyboard with 88 keys or a note weight digital piano with 88 keys. Any suggestions?

I just got a guitar & i learning how to play it, but I’ve also been playing the piano for 11 years, will the calluses that develop hurt my piano playing? Will it make my hands look ugly or will i have less feeling in my finger tips?
