The best thing to use is notation software. This is a link to finale notepad 2007. It’s an old version, but very functional:http://finale-notepad-2007.software.info…

You could get the new version on the finale website, but it will only work for 30 days. The 2007 version will work forever. You should consider buying the full version though if you get serious.

Play around on a piano. Use different chords & find a correct rhythm. If you don’t want a completely accurate composition, create a song randomly without a firm beat. If you do want a rhythm, you are better off using a metronome, these can keep you too the correct beat whilst telling you what the time is.
Create a blank music staff by just using a ruler. Draw five lines, then another set of five lines below for your left hand. You can also download it but if you do this or draw the staff (the five lines that you write music on), your staff should look like the image provided.
Slowly play the piece of music you have played on your piano again, & write down each note on the score. A standard one beat note should look like the image provided.

There is probably software available online for you to be able to do that. My piano instructor is currently trying to find the software for me & my classmates to start composing..

sibelius which is a program used by professionals i have the latest version, there are also student versions available
